Building upgrade creates inner city 'container'

The former office building in Rosettenville Road in the heart of the Johannesburg CBD has been transformed into a visually pleasing giant 'container', indicative of the business of its new owner, Stor-Age.

The store located just off the M2 opened towards the end of last year and has made its mark with its modern and bold red facade, an aesthetic leap from the former dilapidated manufacturing plant. The 11 000 square meter store is one of the largest of the company's, with six floors and over 600 self-storage units ranging from 3-30 square meters.

Users include Ster-Kinekor, NEHAWU (National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union), and a few other larger promotional companies, all of whom benefit from the easy access as well as the high security measures in place.

According to an Urban Studies report, JHB City Centre currently consists of approximately 200 000 permanent residents, and sees an influx of around 500 000 to 600 000 visitors per day. With office space around 2 million square meters it also reportedly remains the largest office space in greater Johannesburg.
