SAA spokesperson Tlali Tlali said flights resumed on Sunday evening after the airline received updates that adverse weather in the east coast of the US was beginning to ease off. On Friday, the national carrier announced that it had cancelled flights to Washington DC and New York due to the bad weather associated with winter storm Jonas.

However, flight SA 208 from Washington (IAD) via Dakar (DKR) remained cancelled on Sunday while flight SA 204 from New York (JFK) to Johannesburg (JNB) on Sunday also remained cancelled.

    Customers impacted

"Customers with onward connections to and from Washington Dulles International Airport and New York, John F. Kennedy International Airport may still remain impacted upon arrival due to operation clean-up anticipated at the respective airports. "Public transportation may also be affected," said Tlali.

He urged customers to contact the airline for the latest flight information. Assistance will be provided to all ticketed passengers holding a South African Airway's ticket via any SAA call centre, City Travel office or dedicated travel agent.

Rebooking conditions are applicable, said the airline, adding that a change of cabin will not be permitted and that tickets must be re-issued on/before 26 January 2016 and that travel must commence on/before 31 January 2016, among others.

The SAA call centre in Johannesburg can be contacted daily between 6am and 10pm on 011 978 1111 or 0861 606 606. The call centre in Fort Lauderdale in the US can be contacted on 1 (800) 722 9675.

"We regret any inconvenience to our customers as a result of the adverse weather conditions associated with "winter storm Jonas". We would like to also encourage all customers to visit our website for all flight updates and or flight cancellations," said Tlali.
