Basil Read gets road repair contract

Construction and engineering group, Basil Read has been awarded the rehabilitation contract for a section of the N1 between Vaalpensspruit and Winburg by the South African National Road Agency Limited.

The contract is worth an estimated R279m and is expected to take two years to complete. Work will start in mid-February this year.

The rehabilitation work comprises 33.4km of roadworks that start at Vaalpensspruit and end at N1 interchange outside Winburg.

The project includes two new major bridges: the Tom Schutte bridge and Du Plooyspruit bridge as well as the widening of in situ concrete culverts.

Basil Read chief executive‚ Marius Heyns says the company is looking forward to strong business activity in its roads division this year.
