Choreographers take up residency programme

It has always been a prime objective of Dance Forum to nurture dance practitioners and the Choreographers' Residency Programme offers free space for a choreographer to work in for a period of up to one month in the Dance Space. In this period, the choreographer can create a work and teach a series of master classes to discuss what he/she is working on.

The choreographers to take up this offer are Mcebisi Bhayi from South Africa and Joey Chua Poh Yi from Singapore who created a work together for Dance Umbrella 2009. They will work in the Dance Space until 27 June 2012.

Their schedule will be to work on their new piece which will première at the Dance Umbrella 2013. They will have only one day for open class in the Dance Space on 25 June which is open to anyone to attend. A showcase of their new work in progress will be followed by a face to face interview with the choreographers.

Other artists who will be in residency at the Dance Space this year are Fana Tshabalala and Via Katlehong. The National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund has allocated funding to Dance Forum to host the Choreographers' Residency Programmes during 2012.
