The SABC has joined forces with the Sports & Events Tourism Exchange (SETE) Conference & Exhibition to strengthen SETE 2013 in its bid to promote South Africa as a sports tourism destination. The conference and exhibition will take place from 22-24 October 2013 at the Durban International Conference Centre.

Not only will SETE consist of a two day exhibition, where both international and pre-identified and invited local buyers will have the opportunity to meet and interact with participating exhibitors, but the event will also include a two day conference where the platform provided is to pursue bidding and hosting of major international events.

The types of buyers that the event will attract is aimed at promoting South Africa as a training destination for northern hemisphere athletes in their winter months, as well as promote South Africa as a destination for social participants in sport, exploiting our golf courses, beaches, stadiums and hiking trails.

    Best interest of SA

"We are really excited to welcome SABC as the official broadcast partner for the second year now," comments Sugen Pillay, business development director of Thebe Exhibitions and Projects. "This partnership confirms the importance of this event to the South African sports tourism industry and the role that SABC will play in communicating important announcements and developments that will take place at this year's SETE event to the South African sports and tourism communities."

"It is an honour for the SABC to be associated with the Sports & Events Tourism Exchange Conference & Exhibition," SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says. "The partnership bodes well for us and is in the best interest of tourism, sport and the entire country. The SABC always looks at opportunities to position our brands to emotionally connect with and retain audiences. We support many initiatives of public interest and it is a true demonstration of the SABC's commitment to broadcasting for total citizen empowerment."

The Sports & Events Tourism Exchange is hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism, partnered by CATHSSETA, SASCOC, Tourism KZN and Durban Tourism, and supported by Durban KZN Convention Bureau.
