Andrew Nunneley appointed MD at Mikateko Media

The company, formed in 2008, has current high-profile clients of Transnet and the Steve Biko Foundation. According to Bulelwa Mtsali, editorial director at Mikateko, the company's immediate priority is to implement a shared vision and strategy for the company's future growth - both short and long term.

"Raise the profile of the company"

"In his new role, Andrew will work closely with us to raise the profile of the company, secure better access to required skills and strategically target specific new business opportunities," she says and added that Nunneley will provide strong leadership and ensure that the considerable talents within this entrepreneurial company are maximized.

With over 16 years in the magazine and content industry, Nunneley has experience in every facet of the business, from advertising to editorial to publishing and business development. He began his career as an advertising sales rep for Caravan Publications, where he rose to become advertising manager for its bouquet of outdoor magazines, including Caravan Outdoor Life and SA 4X4. He became a features writer before being appointed editor of SA 4X4 magazine.

Value through partnerships

In 2003, New Media recruited Nunneley for the position of editor of Drive Out. He was soon promoted to publisher of a portfolio of titles, including Drive Out, Eat Out, Eat In and Time Out. A further promotion to publishing director expanded his portfolio to include further consumer titles, as well as custom publications for Edgars, FNB, Telkom, Mango, Mercedes-Benz and Mitsubishi, amongst others.

He currently sits on the MPASA (Magazine Publishers Association of South Africa) board and the New Media Exco.

While Mikateko Media is an independent company with its own offices, management team and staff, one of its key competitive advantages is the value it offers through its partnerships with both New Media and Media 24. New Media has a 49% shareholding in Mikateko Media and in turn, Media 24 is a 58% shareholder in New Media. Through this relationship, the company benefits from its partners' thinking in custom publishing, national footprint and access to printing and distribution resources, while still retaining the agility and entrepreneurial spirit of a smaller company.
