Super sleuths to boost sales in Getaway bid to find a million

Getaway is gearing up for an avalanche of entries as their biggest competition yet draws to a close in September. The Treasure for Africa promotion could see one lucky entrant become an instant millionaire and almost R2 million given away in prizes, in an exciting six-month sweepstake that will boost newsstand sales significantly, according to promotions manager, Sally Dowling.

The competition requires readers to piece together a map from puzzle pieces published in the magazine between April and September, and then to mark the co-ordinates of buried treasure on the completed map.

The first correctly assembled map drawn will earn the reader a Land Rover Defender 110 double cab Td5 worth more than R300 000, while the correct co-ordinates on the same map will see the lucky entrant strike gold - in the form of R1 million in cash. Runners-up stand to win another Land Rover, camera equipment from Nikon and Cape Union Mart adventure gear.

The competition, which forms part of Getaway's 15th birthday activities, has generated a great deal of interest, with ongoing requests for back copies by readers wanting to be in the running for the grand prize, Dowling said.

"The competition was conceived as a means both of marking our anniversary and given our readers the opportunity to celebrate with us," said Dowling. "The huge prize is generating enormous awareness, while the nature of the competition means we are building excitement over an extended period, which will grow our newsstand sales significantly over the six months and consolidate our position in the marketplace."

The Treasure for Africa competition is supported by in-store promotions in key retail outlets, a dedicated TV ad that flights 101 times on DSTV each month from July to September, editorial coverage in the magazine, exposure at the Getaway shows and promotion online at www.getawaytoafrica.com.
