Motorola hits at Nigerian grey market

Allafrica.com reports that Motorola Solutions has appealed to Nigeria's Federal Government to put in place holistic measures that would eradicate activities of the grey market in the country.

Speaking at the launch of a new smart two-way communication radio device Motorola manufactures, the company's director of sales, Africa and Middle east, Laurent Tribout said if the problem was not solved it would set serious limitations to the country's developmental plan.

According to Tribout, players in the grey market were robbing the country huge amounts of money at the expense of real manufacturers. Tribout said that, while the company's new two-way radio had not been faked, the existing enlarged radio device were currently been faked in the market. He cautioned that faked devices looked like the original radio, but lacked quality and durability features and had health hazards as they might not have been produced under standard manufacturing conditions, Allafrica.com says. Tribout strongly suggested that customers should demand that the dealer produces an authorised Motorola certificate before making purchases.
