#Covid19: Saai provides online platform for travel documents

Saai has created a web-based platform where important travel documents needed during the mandatory 21-day Covid-19 lockdown can be freely uploaded and shared within the farming community.

Essential and critical businesses and services in the agricultural sector, as well as other sectors responsible for production and packaging services in essential health and food supply chains are necessary for supporting the health and safety of all South Africans. These businesses will, therefore, remain open during the lockdown and include agricultural and food supply related operations, such as farming, veterinary and phytosanitary provider services, pest control services, and chemical and fertiliser providers.

    A web-based platform

During the lockdown, family farmers and their workers will have to travel to and from farms in order to perform necessary tasks.

"Our web-based platform will allow anyone conducting critical services in the agricultural and food supply chain to upload their necessary travel documents, which prove they are travelling within the bounds of the law during the COVID-19 lockdown.

"The system will send an email to participants, containing a PDF document that shows all their necessary details. In addition, Saai will WhatsApp a ticket to subscribers with a QR code that contains all the necessary information," says Francois Rossouw, chief executive of Saai.

QR technology is freely available and can be downloaded from any app store.

    Protecting the food chain

Saai is expecting a degree of frustration at roadblocks, especially during the early stages of the lockdown. In creating this digital tool, Saai hopes to contribute to the unhindered continuation of agricultural products and services throughout the local food chain.

    Access to the digital platform.
