SA deciduous fruit industry 'transforming'

The South African deciduous fruit industry has made material progress in the transformation sphere, although there is a long and challenging road ahead, according to Hortgro Services executive director, Anton Rabe.

"Many farms and service providers have progressed well in this field, particularly when considering the political and economic challenges facing the sector.

"The transformation process has had mixed results, and often the media tend to focus on unsuccessful projects and continue with gross negative generalisations while there are many success stories to be told. We tell it as it is and are the first to acknowledge that collectively all stakeholders in the deciduous fruit industry have a long way to go," Rabe said.
