More Engen 1 Stops, more jobs

Just in time for the holiday season, two new Engen 1 Stops opened their doors in the Richards Bay area on Thursday, 9 December 2010, located on the N2 National highway - one on either side of the road - each with similar offerings for commuters.

Some of the services offered at each 1 Stop are the Quick-Shops, fuel facilities, Wimpy restaurant, Corner Bakery, Equatorial Coffee, clean restrooms, as well as shower facilities for long distance truck drivers.

Besides these offerings to commuters, the new stations are providing much-needed employment opportunities for the area, giving 140 people, 99% of them from the local community, something to celebrate starting the New Year. Unemployment in Richards Bay has been estimated at 40% and many people are living below the poverty line, with employment being one of the biggest challenges in the province.

"The number of employees at the two new Engen 1 Stops is expected to increase over busy periods. The last 1 Stop that opened was a few years ago, and given the current economic climate this opening is a huge milestone in Engen's growth in the retail forecourt market," said Nobleman Kani, Engen's retail network manager, 1 Stops in KZN and Freestate area.

"The latest Engen Hi-Tech equipment has been used with designs manufactured to consume minimum energy. The fuel storage and dispensing equipment systems are above the benchmark standard to make sure there is no fuel contamination into the environment. All of this is in line with Engen's standards which incorporate energy, enthusiasm and enjoyment in the delivery of service excellence to our transient customers," says Vukile Zondani, GM: Engen sales and marketing.
