Heidi Rowley, Cape Town branch manager at the Reach for a Dream Foundation, says that in keeping with tradition, Reach for a Dream will be hosting a 'Winter Dream Wonderland' themed party in Cape Town on 17 July for children who are suffering from life-threatening illnesses, together with staff, volunteers and donors.
"There are few experiences as tough as facing a life-threatening illness, which makes an occasional escape from the realities of their life all the more essential" she says. "The concept for our birthday party therefore is to create a 'wonderland' for the children, giving them an exciting and carefree way of escaping into fun-filled fantasy."
For 22 years the Reach for a Dream Foundation has been bringing joy into the lives of children affected by illnesses such as leukaemia, cancer, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, kidney failure and blood disorders by making their dreams come true and providing some measure of relief from the seemingly endless days filled with hospitals, treatment and medicine.
"Every child has hopes and dreams, but in the case of our 'Dream Children', these are all the more poignant given the incredibly trying circumstances under which they live their daily lives," says Rowley. "Through our foundation and the generosity of our sponsors and supporters, we are able to reach out to these children and their families and bring laughter and happiness into their lives."
